The bellow is a text from my daughter to her husband.
“‘

Mom woke up because in her half asleep half awake state, she could hear the ventilator making a weird sound- it didn’t sound normal. She got up and touched dad and he was cold and clammy- mom thought he was dead and was afraid to turn on the light.
Basically what happened was- his ventilator malfunctioned and didn’t alarm when his breaths became labored-they were strained because he had a mucus plug clogging his cannula. When mom got the oxygen meter on him he was at 49%!!!! His heart rate was like 150 or something mom said, he wasn’t responsive and his eyes were glazed over. Nique had just left to work and mom was alone at home at 5:30 in the morning. It took him over an hour to respond to my mom, his heart rate stayed elevated for over an hour. Mom had started massaging him and stretching his limbs to get the blood flowing. She said he was grey and his eyes were just staring off.
When he finally settled down 4 hours later, he told mom he only remembered her yelling at him and waking up. He thought she yelled at him to wake up- but she had been in full blown panic for two hours.
The worst part was.his Tobi died because Nique forgot to plug it in, so he was aware when it first started but he couldn’t communicate. He only survived because my mom just so happened to be half awake.”
NOW FOR THE REST OF THE REST OF THE STORY.
Last Thursday I woke up in the early morning with mucus in my canula. No biggy” I thought I will just Laura who was sleeping in our room next to me know. However, as I looked up at my eye gaze, which I use to communicate, it was not responding. What was going on? Oh, no it’s dead .
‘Ok, let me do my mental checks. The vent is working and I don’t hear any alarms. I feel a little rumbling in my chest, but as long as it doesn’t get worse I think I’ll be fine for now. Thump-thump my heart beats faster. The mucus is a little bit thicker now and my heart rate is starting to go faster. I am ok, if there are no alarms, I am fine.” I thought.
Instead of getting anxious I started to my mind control and call Laura to wake up. Unfortunately I am still not proficient with my mind skills yet as Laura kept snoring. “Maybe I will use my skills and move something else to wake her up. Damm, failed again. Make a reminder to watch Star Wars again.” I thought as my heart beat faster, thump-thump.
I decided to do what I should have done from the start. Trust in the one and only true force, God. Eventually falling asleep as I prayed. Thump- thump,, thump-thump. Our Father who …
“David, David, wake up!” Laura was talking to me and rubbing my arm as I slowly woke up from a deep sleep. Thump-thump, I still felt my heart beating, but it was slower and my breathing was clear again . My head said why are you waking me, as my body said thank you God for answering my prayers once again.
I don’t know if I was close to death or if it my ALS put me in a MMA choke hold, but I didn’t see the light. All I remember was having a great dream and being happy. So if that is how I die just make sure I have a fluffy pillow.

David! That was a close call! I'm glad you made it through. And that you trust God more than mind control. Greg
Having, unfortunately, some poorly-trained or under-trained nurses who rotate through when our regulars are out sick or on vacation, this scenario is one of my nightmares. For this reason, I tell whoever is here to regularly check the Trilogy to make sure the PIP is between 20-30; under means the cuff is under-pressured, over means there is an obstruction somewhere. Generally it's a mucus plug that's the issue, and when my husband mouths "I can't breathe", I immediately pull his inner cannula. More often than not, a cannula change fixes the issue. Sometimes it's a 2-hour marathon of cough assist, suction, saline injection, breathing treatment, rinse and repeat. My husband can still use his one moving arm/fist to knock on…
