“I Can Hear Clearly Now” Chapter 129

Doesn’t it feel great when you find something you lost? I’m not speaking about your keys or wallet. Heck, you can buy a locator chip to find those things. Maybe losing your child in a store can be stressful, but next time put a leash on them. I remember a time when my daughter would hide in between the clothes racks. What she didn’t know was that I was also trying to hide from her to get a little break.😅😄
Seriously though. When we lose one of our senses, it can be a little scary. Some of you may have lost your smell or taste when you had Covid. It sucked, but it was a great time to challenge friends to a hot pepper 🌶️ contest. Via Zoom of course. Since being trached, I lost both my taste and smell senses. I deal with it and there are actually some benefits. I can’t smell all of the natural gases around here, and I don't have to taste my liquid diet.
However, when I started to lose my hearing, that really sucked. No chips or a leash could help there. The only benefit was not having to hear all of my girls yapping, but I do really love hearing their voices even more. In chapter 100, I explained how I lost my hearing. Fluid buildup in my middle ear prevented my ear drums from functioning. I was given an amplifier to help hear and the 📺 tv volume was on blast. In chapter 103, the doctor did a Rocky and cut me to place tubes in my ears so they could drain. After I was able to hear so well, I could hear a cricket fart. The tv had to be set at a low volume and everyone else was now too loud!
I was excited and grateful to be hearing again. Over the past few months my hearing started to level out and to be honest, I started wondering if fluid was building up or if the tubes fell out. The tubes will eventually fall out and fluid buildup up in PALS is common. I will likely have to go through the process again, but the next time will be no different than losing my keys. I am prepared now and not scared.
This week I went back to the audiologist to be tested again and Wow! I was very surprised with the results. I didn’t have any fluid collecting and both tubes were still there working perfectly. The results between the two visits were dramatically different. You can see from the pictures the results in APR 2025 are far better than the results in SEPT 2024. The higher on the chart, the better. I also found out the hearing loss I do have is the same in both ears. I always thought they were different with my left worse then my right.
PALS will continue to be challenged throughout our journeys, but knowing there is help and people who love us along the way makes it easier.
Love and Blessings

Great read uncle dubois. You made me giggle about the girls hiding in the clothes racks. I remember doing that too. Im glad you have your hearing. We truly take advantage of our senses and dont realize how fortunate it is for our everyday lives.
Love you uncle God bless you

I'm very glad that you had your hearing problem resolved, and I'm sure the rest of your family is as well. Although my husband doesn't suffer from hearing loss to any degree, he should because he always plays the TV and stereo really loudly! I ended up buying him a remote TV speaker which I placed on his bedrail close to his ear. This allows him to clearly hear the TV without blasting me out of bed in the middle of the night. We have a single story house with solid surface floors - kind of an echo chamber. I go in the bedroom and turn on my TV on the lowest volume to see if I can hear it…
I enjoy reading your updates! Despite all the challenges you are “growing” through- you continue to make us smile and laugh as we follow along your journey! Always praying for you David Andrew. Til the next blog! *Bobbie-Jo
