“I’m Not The Same Anymore” Chapter 157

As I sit here thinking about the question, “What do I miss the most?” of course, it’s gelato. It’s easier to dwell on the past, but I would rather think about the future. “What future could you have? You’re dying from ALS!”
You see, I know I will go to heaven, and I will be whole again.
However, I also believe there will be a cure in the near future, and I will be healed. As I think about how much I’ve grown since my diagnosis, I thank God for this opportunity. Most people don’t change without a life-changing event happening to them. We work in the same careers until we retire, eat pizza every Friday, do the same things on the weekends, and then start all over again. I was the same way. We are creatures of habit and so was I.
However, since my diagnosis, I’ve tried new things. And when I am healed whether by God’s hand directly or through His guidance to doctors and scientists I will be changed.
To start, no more liquid diet! As much as I “love” Liquid Hope formula, I’m going to enjoy all foods again. I’ve been watching a lot of cooking videos, and I’m ready to break out the air fryer and microwave. I can only handle about a cup of food at a time right now, but I’ve been watching those food-eating challenges too you know, the ones where someone eats ten pounds of food all by themselves. I figure once I get my jaw back in shape, it’s on! And I’m starting with gelato. If a 110-pound, soaking-wet woman can eat eight pounds of food, so can I.
I had a good start back in the day when I could eat a two-pound cheeseburger without fries? No problem. If I’d only kept training, I could have been famous.

I’m not just a guy writing a blog; I’m a published author with over 149 books sold. Just a few million more, and I might give Stephen King a run for his money. Before ALS, the only writing I did was Army policy and Facebook posts.
Last week, with the help of my daughter, I was a guest on a local podcast to discuss my book and ALS journey. I had a great time with Corina, who was proud of her daddy. Jeffrey Higgins interviewed us for the Elaine’s Literary Salon podcast airing on December 16th. We don’t just talk about the book, so tune in and get to know me a little more: https://elainesliterarysalon.com/david-w-dubois/

Unable to contribute to my 401(k) anymore, I still wanted to invest in the market so my wife could have financial security. I didn’t have a broker and I was too cheap to pay for one so I decided to learn how to do it myself. I can’t say I’m Tom Lee, any I’m not beating the market by a lot yet, but it’s been two years, and I haven’t lost. I only have a few million more to go.
In the end, I’ll either be walking in Heaven or be a food-making, speed-eating, non-suit-wearing, stock-market-winning guy, no longer stuck in this chair.
What about you?
